A horrific story of the abduction and torture of a woman unfolded in Western Michigan. The man kept the woman in his home for more than 20 days, beating her almost to death, accusing her of treason, although they had only one date.

45-year-old Trevor Double was facing three felony charges, including two assault related charges, according to charging documents. Van Buren County Deputy Sgt. James Charon said Kaila McCleary, 24, of Battle Creek, was lucky to be alive, reports WWMT.

According to official information, the victim met Double in the dating app MeetMe. They corresponded for several weeks before meeting in person.

"I was lying on the edge of the bed with my feet up trying to block it my face and he was whacking me in the legs. At one point he would dragged me by my hair and beat me with an iron," McCleary said.

McCleary said Double used a hatchet like a paddle to beat McCleary all over her body. She said she had 17 stiches in her leg.

According to the victim, on the day of the abduction, Double invited her to have breakfast together, but instead of a cafe, he took her to his home and beat her up.

Double was charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, assault with a dangerous weapon and being a habitual offender. He was held at the Van Buren County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
