New Yorkers got into a fight with police over their reluctance to leave the park at curfew
Washington Square Park yesterday became the epicenter of riots and clashes between New Yorkers and police officers. Several police squads arrived at the park to disperse the crowds due to the imposed curfew, but the parkgoers fought back.

Video from the scene shows parkgoers throwing stones and bottles at officers.
Also, according to witnesses, some people were hospitalized. To date, the police have not released the exact number of those arrested and information about the victims on both sides.

Police and city parks department officials instituted the temporary weekend curfew amid complaints of rampant drug use, loud music and large gatherings in the center of the historically free-spirited neighborhood, The New York Post reports.
