Anti-vaxxer Wisconsin doctor who destroyed 500 doses of Moderna went to prison for 3 years
The US Department of Justice sentenced a doctor who considered vaccination “harmful” to three years in prison. Last December, identified as Steven Brandenburg, spoiled five hundred doses of the Moderna vaccine.
“Steven R. Brandenburg, 46, of Grafton, pleaded guilty on Feb. 9, to two counts of attempting to tamper with consumer products with reckless disregard for the risk that another person would be placed in danger of death or bodily injury,” the DOJ press release says. “According to court documents, Brandenburg purposefully removed a box of COVID-19 vaccine vials manufactured by Moderna — which must be stored at specific cold temperatures to remain viable — from a hospital refrigeration unit during two successive overnight shifts in late December 2020. According to his plea agreement, Brandenburg stated that he was skeptical of vaccines in general, and the Moderna vaccine specifically, and had communicated his beliefs about vaccines to his co-workers.”
The incident was compounded by the fact that 57 volunteers received injections of the tainted vaccine.
In addition to imprisonment, Brandenburg is required to pay damages of $ 83,800 in restitution to the hospital, the Justice Department said.
"I did not have the right to make this decision," he said, according to WTMJ's Tony Atkins. "I feel terrible for what I've done. I am desperately sorry and ashamed."
