Nebraska Volleyball Coach Charged With Sexual Abuse

LINCOLN, NE – August 16, 2018

A youth team volleyball coach from west Omaha has been charged with sexual assault of a child, local media reports.

The incident occurred on Christmas Eve 2011. Court records don’t indicate why the misdemeanor charge against Daniel R. Martin, 50, came 6½ years later.

Deputy Sarpy County Attorney Ben Perlman said he couldn’t discuss details but said a long lag time between incident and charge is “not out of the ordinary in these kinds of cases.” Defense attorney Mallory Hughes said: “We deny these allegations wholly, and we’re preparing to put on a vigorous defense.”

Martin, who had been an administrator or coach at Club Legacy Volleyball Academy in the Elkhorn area, didn’t return phone calls.

Club Legacy’s Steph Peterson said in an email that Martin “has taken a leave of absence” that is “not connected with Club Legacy or its players.”
