Shocking video shows a man attempting to abduct a 3-year-old girl from her grandmother in New York City
A man was caught on camera attempting to abduct a 3-year-old from her grandmother’s arms in the Bronx on Monday afternoon.
The grandmother was walking with her three grandkids when a man covered in a blanket all of a sudden lunged toward them and grabbed a 3-year-old girl before trying to run away.
The incident was caught on a surveillance camera.
NYPD said the worst development of the situation could be prevented due to the “good Samaritans” who intervened. The suspect put the toddler back on the ground and fled the scene.
The failed kidnapper was later identified as 27-year-old Santiago Salcedo. He was arrested on the same day and kidnapping, attempted kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child.
"When he grabbed her, I thought it was a joke," one of the people who intervened said noting that he initially didn’t know what happened. "When she [the grandmother] said, 'He's taking my child away,' I reacted and went towards him."
Salcedo remains in police custody.
