A Man in Montana Gets Life in Prison

Al Knauber

HELENA – August 17, 2018

A 22-year-old man from Montana was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his girlfriend, local media reports.

Skyler Schneider was convicted of deliberate homicide and tampering with evidence in March for his role in the death of Katherine Elizabeth Spencer, 23.

Schneider shot Spencer late on the night of July 1, 2017. Court documents state Schneider called 911 at 11:39 p.m. to report the shooting and was speaking with a dispatcher on his cellphone when he was detained. Spencer was found in a vehicle at 29 12th Ave. with a single gunshot wound to the head. She was taken to St. Peter's Hospital, where she later died.

Judge Kathy Seeley sentenced Schneider to life in prison for deliberate homicide and another 10 years in prison for tampering with evidence.

Montana parole rules dictate that Schneider will spend at least 32.5 years in prison before becoming eligible for parole.
