Nebraska Farmer Save Several Hundreds of Pigs From Fire

LINCOLN – August 21, 2018

Good news comes from the rural state of Nebraska, where a local farmer saved about 600 pigs during a fire, local media reports.

The blaze began at approximately 5:55 p.m. Friday at the hog house on 20 Road south of T Road south of Wilcox. Wilcox, Hildreth, Franklin, Axtell, Funk and Minden fire departments all assisted in fighting the fire, according to Wilcox Volunteer Fire Department Chief Steven Borgman.

“It was just so hot, we had to have extra people come in,” Borgman said.

No one was injured, and the owner of the pigs brought in semi-trucks to remove them from the facility. The fire was under control by 10:30 p.m. The fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal, and the cause still has to be determined.

Borgman said the building was more than likely a total loss, but the cost of damage has not yet been determined.
