An Illinois school resource officer was arrested he allegedly threw a student to the ground in the incident which was caught on camera.

The incident took place at Proviso West High School in Hillside.

The resource officer was caught on camera confronting a student while at the front of the classroom. The officer eventually slammed the student, whose name was not released, into several desks before hitting him against the ground.

“I am extremely disappointed, no — I’m upset by what transpired today. No adult should ever put their hands on a child in that manner – especially not in a school setting,” Supt. Dr. James Henderson said in a written statement, according to ABC7 Chicago.

Henderson told the staff to contact the authorities. When the officers arrived at the school, they arrested the man.

According to Henderson, the resource officer will not be permitted back on school grounds.

A person of interest remains in custody, the Hillside police chief said.
