Amtrak passenger shot dead on board while train is traveling through Missouri
A passenger of an Amtrak train going through Missouri was shot dead on Friday.
The suspect gunman reportedly fled.
The gunfire happened when the train stopped at a station in Lee’s Summit. 31-year-old Richie Aaron Jr. was injured but the train continued traveling.
Police was alerted of the shooting at about 9 p.m. when the train reached Independence, Missouri. The medics were waiting outside for the travel to arrive. When they entered the train’s car, Aaron had been already dead.
They pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police launched a manhunt for the suspect gunman.
Amtrak released a statement confirming its compliance with the ongoing investigation.
"Amtrak is supporting local authorities who are investigating a tragic incident last night involving two passengers on Train 313. One of the passengers is a fatality, while the other left the scene in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. There were no injuries to the other 81 passengers and the Amtrak crew and they were all provided alternate transportation to their final destination. … Amtrak takes its responsibility for safe travel seriously," the company said, as FOX 4 reported.
