Ivanka Trump Published a Provocative Photo
WASHINGTON - May 28, 2018
A photo of Ivanka Trump with her little son published this weekend on Twitter fueled the controversy over the fate of migrant children separated from their parents after illegally entering the United States.
A senior official with the US Department of Health and Human Services, Steven Wagner, told a congressional committee in April that the government had been "unable to determine exactly the whereabouts of 1,475" minors who entered that way with their parents and were placed with host families, as he had not been able to establish contact with these families in the last three months of 2017.
The controversy involving the daughter and adviser of President Donald Trump broke out after she published the image in which she is seen with her child in her arms and that accompanied by the message: "Mi <3! # MañanadeDomingo". A photo that seems clichéd but that led the Internet users to contrast this situation with that of migrant children separated from their parents.
Especially after the US Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, reiterated earlier this month the policy of "zero tolerance" with illegal immigration followed by the Trump government.
"If you make a child (illegally), we will chase you, and that child will be separated from you, as established by law," Sessions said at the time.
"Is not it the best thing to hug your little one, to know exactly where he is, safe in your arms? (...) Is not that right, Ivanka?" Humorist Patton Oswalt sarcastically asked on Twitter. The analyst of the London School of Economics Brian Klass, judged in both the image as wrong about the "barbaric (migratory) policy of which Ivanka Trump is complicit."
The Internet users used the hashtag #WhereAreTheChildren to denounce the image of the president's daughter.
