BARABOO, WISCONSIN  - May 30, 2018

Baraboo police are investigating thefts of flowers from grave sites at Walnut Hill and St. Joseph’s cemeteries that happened over the holiday weekend.

Many of the flowers were taken from the graves of military veterans, according to a Facebook post from the department on Saturday, and authorities believe the thefts occurred during daylight hours.

“All the more troubling is that many of these flowers were taken from the graves of military veterans, who are being honored this Memorial Day weekend by their families and friends,” the post reads. “These families are upset at the actions of the offenders, and ask the flowers be returned.”

MPD received about 30 reports over the Memorial Day weekend saying the thieves took the flowers in broad daylight.

“Even worse,” said comments to department Facebook post. “Someone came and kicked the headstone over and wrote all over it.”

“This happens year after year!” – another Facebook user replied.

The department is requesting anyone with information regarding the thefts or who may have witnessed suspicious activity in that area to contact Officer Amanda Sabol at 355-2720.
