Masked Killer Terrorizing Chicago

M. Spencer Green

CHICAGO — October 8, 2018

Chicago law enforcement is making a lot of effort to find a dangerous criminal who managed to take the life of at least two people just 36 hours apart. The man’s identity remains unknown as he wears a mask while committing his crimes.

The first murder occurred last Sunday, September 30. A victim of the criminal became 7З-year-old Douglass Watts. He was shot in the head outside his house in Rogers Park. The next day, the mysterious killer struck another blow. This time, 24-year-old Eliyahu Moscowitz was also shot in the head and left for dead on the pedestrian path in Loyola Park.

Watts and Moscowitz did not know each other, authorities said, but they were shot with the same gun.

“We all want answers,” Steve Loskutov, Moscowitz’s friend said. “We all want justice. It’s sickening to think about it

The police immediately set up a special unit to investigate the case. More than forty detectives, along with agents from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, as well as patrol crews are trying to neutralize the threat from the dangerous criminal. Law enforcement officers believe that if he is not caught soon, he will continue to kill.

Due to the fact that the attacker carefully hides his face, the police have not been able to establish his identity as of yet. According to detectives, the unknown killer lives either near Rogers Park or in the surrounding area, and authorities hope his unique gait will help identify him. During both murders, he was dressed in dark clothes, leaving only a slot open for his eyes.

Chicago police shared a minute-long surveillance video of the suspect. At one point the masked man is seen jogging down an alley. The suspect appears to walk and run with his feet pointed outward in the video.

On Thursday, the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago announced a $10,000 reward for information in connection with the murders. Cook County Crime Stoppers has also offered a $1,000 reward. The ATF’s added $5,000 on Saturday, bringing the total reward to $16,000.

The investigation is ongoing and the attacker is still at large; Chicago residents are still fearing for their lives. This situation only aggravates the epidemic of violence that has unfolded in one of the largest cities in the United States in recent months.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.
