Mission Impossible: How to Find a Polling Station in Manhattan?
NEW YORK – November 6, 2018
As the mid-terms are underway, America is choosing. America is electing.
Yet, as became clear for a USA Really correspondent in New York City, it’s really complicated to find a polling station in the heart of the city, in Manhattan.
I’ve asked the policemen, asked the locals, asked social service employees I’ve encountered in Manhattan: Where is the closest polling station? And nobody could give me an answer! The policemen have told me they have just been brought here to “protect,” and the inhabitants never heard of a polling station nearby as well! Ain’t it genius?
As USA Really has already reported, mid-terms traditionally see low voter turnout: In 2014, national participation stalled at just 37% — a record low since World War II, which is a true sign of the non-involvement of the general population in the electoral process and might also indicate the frustration Americans feel about their political system.
