WASHINGTON, D.C. – December 26, 2018

Texas congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee said that Dem. Congressman Robert Francis (Beto) O'Rourke would be a formidable candidate for president in 2020.

“I think Democrats have the best feel of candidates that we've ever had and Beto may choose to be one of those candidates and I think that he will make a strong mark. He did a stupendous job as the Democratic candidate for the Senate in Texas Beto is an assured confident and very tactical smart leader,” said Lee in her interview to OAN reporter.

A new Iowa presidential preference poll is showing that O’Rourke is among the top contenders.

The new Iowa Poll finds 32% of likely caucus-goers saying they back Biden as their first choice, 19% Sanders, 11% O'Rourke, 8% Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and 5% California Sen. Kamala Harris, with the rest of the 20-person field testing below 5% support.

The poll of 455 likely Democratic caucus-goers in 2020 was conducted Dec. 10-13 by Selzer & Co, Des Moines Register wrote.

What Iowa Democrats seem certain about is that they don't want to see another run from Hillary Clinton. Almost three-quarters say that if she were to get in the race she would detract from it (72% say so), and her favorability rating is narrowly upside down, with 49% holding an unfavorable opinion vs. 47% who have a positive view.

Two others who have flirted with presidential runs are also seen as more apt to detract from the race than to add to it: Oprah Winfrey (55% say she would do more to detract than add) and Howard Schultz (55% detract). Views on Michelle Obama, however, tilt sharply in the opposite direction. Three-quarters say she would add to the race for president should she throw her hat in the ring (76%), while just 22% say she would detract from it.

Congressman O'Rourke has not yet announced his intentions for 2020 but if he does run it is guaranteed to be an energetic race. In his 2018 race in Texas against Senator Ted Cruz, O'Rourke visited all 254 counties in Texas. The good news for O'Rourke is that in Iowa there are only 99 counties.

In September, during a Senate hearing on accusations against SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee was caught on camera slipping a mysterious white envelope to Dr. Ford’s attorney, Michael Bromwich, which immediately led to conspiracy speculations, as USA Really wrote.
