Children can't pay for school lunch, and then it will only get worse
Children in educational institutions face shame and humiliation from their peers every day because of debts for school meals.
Rep. Ilhan Omar and Sen. Tina Smith present bill for consideration to help children deal with humiliation during the lunch break in schools.
Today I am holding a press conference to introduce the No Shame at School Act. The bill will prohibit schools from shaming children that are unable to pay for their school lunch. https://t.co/ei1zCp0077— Rep. Ilhan Omar (@Ilhan) June 19, 2019
Ilhan Omar drew general attention to Trump’s “terrifying” policies aimed at destroying the educational system in the United States by cutting the budget for children's meals in schools.
"We are a nation of tremendous wealth. Hunger in this country is the result of policies that keep wages low and funnel wealth to the top. It is the result of a political system that says it is OK to spend money on tax breaks for millionaires and the same companies who taint our economy, but we can't afford to fund meals for our kids in the streets," Omar said.
The American people, on the popular Reddit website, condemned the Republicans ’position on this issue, with referenced in Michelle Obama’s unsuccessful attempt to do something similar.
