Alabama: A pregnant woman whose fetus died during a fight faces imprisonment
In December, Marshae Jones, being in her fifth month of pregnancy, provoked a fight with armed Ebony Jemison. The fight ended in a shot in the belly of pregnant Jones, which led to the death of the fetus.
The investigation showed that due to provocations from Marshae Jones, the charges will not be made to the gunman.A Jefferson County grand jury indicted Marshae Jones, 27, based on her alleged role in starting a fight that led to the gunfire, CNN affiliate WBMA reported.
"It was the mother of the child who initiated and continued the fight which resulted in the death of her own unborn baby," Pleasant Grove police Lt. Danny Reid told AL.com shortly after the shooting.
"The investigation showed that the only true victim in this was the unborn baby," Reid told AL.com.
Today, in Alabama, there is a strict law prohibiting abortion. Also, this law regards the death of the fetus as manslaughter, thereby equating pregnant women with weak-headed incubators, the purpose of which, for the next 9 months, is to give birth to a living child.
According to the law, manslaughter provides for a term of up to 20 years, and a doctor who performs an abortion can go to prison for life.
Americans are seriously concerned about this incident, as it echoes many prohibitions, laws, and human rights. This incident affects the right to use firearms against an unarmed person and the right to dispose of your own body and make decisions.
People on the Reddit website reacted extremely negatively towards the bill.
