16-year-old Girl Dies Falling Off While Hiking

A 16-year-old Santaquin girl died after she fell while hiking in Santaquin Canyon. She suffered significant injuries during the fall. All efforts to save her failed. Utah County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies were dispatched to a report at about 10:25 AM.

She was hiking with a friend near the top of a steep climb when she lost her footing while trying to cross a log. She then fell approximately 100 feet straight down, according to Utah County Sheriff Sgt. Spencer Cannon.

When Santaquin Police Officer and Deputies arrived on incident scene, her friend had been administering CPR. Law enforcement officers took over CPR until Santaquin Ambulance crew members arrived. UCSO Search and Rescue and an AirMed helicopter also responded.

According to the statement, the girl sustained serious head and leg injuries and was not conscious or breathing. After about 40 minutes of administering CPR medical personnel determined the girl was deceased.

Her name is Kaylee Marvin, age 16, from Santaquin. Family says she was "beautiful inside and out."

The detectives continue to investigate this case but right now it appears to be a tragic accident. Family does not wish, at this point, to have contact with media.
