Let My People Dance: NY’s Parade Breaks Record


NEW YORK – May 24, 2018

The number of participants in the 12th annual dance parade in New York exceeded 10,000 people.

Parade held in New York on Saturday differentiated of diversity dance, performing more than 80 styles from all over the world.

The colorful live show was held south down Broadway to Tompkins Square Park.

«This year’s theme “THE CABARET OF LIFE” is a celebration of the repeal of New York City’s Cabaret Law that suppressed dance and culture for 91 years since prohibition times. The theme helped us to recognize the importance of the arts in everyday life, both as participant and the audience. The parade was feature over 80 unique styles and cultures.» - said event organizer.

The Сabaret Law was initially enacted in 1926 during the height of Prohibition, and repealed on Halloween 2017 based on legislation introduced by Councilman Rafael Espinal. For nightlife establishments, mainly clubs, this posed a particular challenge as costly Cabaret Licenses were required if dancing was part of the night.
