Police Officers Arrested for Drug Trafficking
PORT JEFFERSON STATION, SUFFOLK COUNTY (LONG ISLAND) — June 22, 2018
The three Nassau County police officers were arrested for their alleged involvement in a drug ring. In addition, one of them tried to rob a patron of a local casino and an armored truck.
According to police, officers 28-year-old Erik Skoglund, of Port Jefferson Station, and 32-year-old Karen Ernst accepted nearly 75 pounds of marijuana from unknown 29-year-old Daniel Caceres of Port Jefferson Station.
Eight other people were also named as operators in Caceres' alleged drug ring.
"Daniel Caceres billed himself as a one-stop shop for various illicit substances, including marijuana, cocaine, and Alprazolam, or Xanax," Suffolk County District Attorney Timothy Sini said. "He is also a gym junkie and a supplier of steroids, which is how he came into contact with several of the defendants in this indictment."
Police are looking for an unidentified another man, who had taken part in these crimes. It is likely he's a police officer too.
According to the prosecutors, Bruce Moeller and Caceres came to the casino with weapons in order to rob the patron. The alleged plan never came to fruition. Later Moeller also planned to rob an armored casino vehicle by himself, but he failed to do it too.
Nassau police said now all three officers have been suspended without pay.
