Florida Is on Fire
EASTPOINT, FLORIDA – June 26, 2018
Up to 30 homes in Eastpoint Florida, 60 miles southwest of Tallahassee near Apalachicola, have been completely destroyed by a fast-moving wildfire, authorities said Monday.
Franklin County Sheriff A. J. Smith said that the fire began sometime late Sunday afternoon and then moved quickly. Nearly 700 acres have been scorched and about 200 residents have been displaced.
Some mandatory evacuation orders have been lifted on Sunday. Smith said people should be able to return to their homes sometime Monday, but many residents still can't return home.
No deaths have been reported.
The American Red Cross opened a shelter Sunday night for those displaced by the fires in Eastpoint. There are 174 people in the shelter of the Red Cross now. According to officials, 80% of the fire has been eliminated.
