Living in the Home You’re Burglarizing Is the New Criminal Trend
OHIO — June 30, 2018
The Grant County Sheriff Department’s Lt. Scott Haley, has reported the arrest of Robert McDonnell, 32 on charges of burglary and living in the house he robbed for several days.
The sheriff's investigators said McDonnell told the officers that he had been traveling by bus to Maine from his home state of Washington and had missed his connection in Marion several days ago. He had found an unlocked door to the house, located on S. Grant County Road 500-E, he told officers.
“He had just walked into this residence and was living there,” Haley said.
Fortunately, the caretaker for the property stopped by the house and the door was answered by McDonnell and a Siberian husky.
The caretaker notified authorities, who arrived at the house.
Sheriff's officers found coins, jewelry, watches and money that had been stolen from the property in the man's duffel bag.
Robert McDonnell is now facing two charges of forced entry and burglary of a dwelling.
What happened to the Siberian husky has not been reported.
