PENNSYLVANIA — July 2, 2018
James William Mentzer, 39, from Pennsylvania, has been charged with institutional sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor, indecent assault, and corruption of minors. Mr. Mentzer had been a teacher at the school where the allegations took place since 2003 where he taught 3rd grade. According to police, he had inappropriate contact with five female students: one 8, one 9, and three 11-year-olds since August 2017 at East Hanover Elementary School.
He has also been accused of forcing some students to perform a puppet show, and attempted to hypnotize them with a necklace. After, he allegedly forced the students to recite an oath on video in which they were instructed to call him "Master" and say that they would obey him.
One of the victims said that Mr. Mentzer demanded that she repeat the phrases, “I will obey you, Master" and “I will obey your commands, Master.”
He reportedly referred to his behavior as part of a "master plan."
He is currently in custody. The school district has placed Mr. Mentzer on administrative leave in response to the allegations.
