A New Jersey resident abducted a woman before shooting and killing her at a Bergen County motel.

According to police, the suspect was likely under the influence of narcotics at the time of the slaying. After nightfall, a motel worker heard shooting and screaming from one of the rooms, and immediately dialed 911. The police arrived at the scene a few minutes later. Investigation revealed that the victim had been raped after being kidnapped from her home on 16th Avenue in Paterson. Police identified the suspect as 45-year-old Jose Segura-Montero and the victim as 41-year-old Marcia Fererra.

The assailant subsequently fled the scene. His vehicle was later found near the motel. When officers came into the room, they found the body of Segura-Montera who had already taken his own life. The authorities have ruled the suicide a result of poison.

The county medical examiner's office will now try confirm the cause and manner of their deaths.
