Wayne Rooney Is Eager to Lift D.C. United Up from the Bottom of The Eastern Conference
WASHINGTON – July 4, 2018
Record goal scorer for Manchester United (183 goals) and the English national team (53 goals), five times a champion of the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League and Europe League winner, legendary forward Wayne Rooney, 32, is about to start his career in MLS with D.C. United.
"I think when I looked at it, it was the right time to come to MLS. D.C. approached us, and I looked at it and they told me about the new stadium, about the new training ground. I looked up the team and I watched a few games and how the team play… I like the vision somewhere I could bring my wife and children to live and go to school. Everything fit with the team...Everything seemed to fit, so that's why I made the decision to come” – says Rooney, adding that the team definitely needs to improve, and young players “can push on and do better”.
D.C. United is currently in last place in the Eastern Conference of the MLS, so they hope Rooney’s transfer will help them to show better results in the near future.
