Neo-Nazi podcaster fined nearly 13 million dollars for 6500 racist and anti-Semitic robocalls

Neo-Nazi podcaster Scott Rhodes of Idaho is responsible for thousands of racist robocalls to African-American Democrat politician Andrew Gillum during an election campaign in 2018.
In addition, California Senator Dianne Feinstein was also the victim of Rhodes anti-Semitic attacks. Nearly 1,500 condemning her Jewish heritage calls were made.
“Federal Communication Commission proposed a $12,910,000 fine against an individual for apparently using caller ID spoofing in thousands of robocalls that targeted specific communities with the intent to cause harm. For example, the caller made unlawful, spoofed robocalls to target a community grappling with the recent murder of a local woman, threaten a journalist and newspaper, and attempt to influence a jury. Additionally, the caller made unlawful, spoofed robocalls related to political campaigns in California, Florida, and Georgia,” according to FCC.
The investigation revealed that hundreds of calls were sent to residents of California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa and Virginia.
“The caller was apparently motivated by a belief that these actions would result in media notoriety and accordingly would enable him to increase publicity for his website and personal brand,” says the FCC statement.
"The Des Moines Register notes that the messaging of these calls included racial slurs and “urged residents to support the deportation of nonwhite immigrants",” reports The Root.
The FCC’s Enforcement Bureau led an investigation that found six apparent campaigns by the robocaller who today faces a proposed $12,910,000 FCC fine for placing spoofed robocalls. Learn more: https://t.co/JHMeJtfMK5 #FCCLive
