Florida teacher suspended due to the fact that he came to school with a moulage firearm
According to official information, one of the teachers of a New Smyrna Beach High School was sent on administrative leave on Wednesday after the students noticed his assault rifle.
The school’s security service and the local police station quickly responded to a possible threat, but later it turned out to be just a model for student club's military careers classes, Fox 35 Orlando reports.
"A fake rifle was confiscated from a teacher this morning by our school resource deputy, assistant principal, and principal after a report from a student, who saw what looked like the stock of a rifle being carried in a bag by a teacher," a message sent to parents by the school said. "This fake rifle was previously used by this teacher as a prop for a club of students interested in a military career. School has proceeded as normal."
Immediately after the toy rifle was seized, Volusia Sheriff’s Office tweeted that “this is not a working firearm. However, as you can imagine, it caused some concern when it was seen by someone who didn't know it wasn't real.”
Deputies responded quickly along with @VolusiaSchools security personnel. The School District has sent a message to parents advising them of this incident. We'd just like to remind everyone that it's not a good idea to bring this type of item onto any school campus.— Volusia Sheriff (@VolusiaSheriff) February 12, 2020
To date, a teacher whose name has not been disclosed has been placed on administrative leave until the end of the investigation.
