A Gunfight in Brooklyn : One Dead and Two Wounded
BROOKLYN, NEW YORK – MAY 24, 2018
An unknown assailant opened fire on a man at Hewes St. and South Third St. in Williamsburg at about 1pm. Afterward, about ten shell casings from at least two different guns littered the street.
"There was a group of guys cursing, arguing with each other," said 50-year-old witness Mario Rodriguez.
Police believe that the man who was killed, Valentin Cruz, exchanged gunfire with his killer, but his family denies this. They also said Cruz was hit once in the head. Cruz was rushed to Woodhull Medical Center, where he died.
"He was supposed to be in school today, but I don't know why he wasn't there. I don't know what he was doing on the street," said Cruz's uncle Ramon Cruz, "The guy who shot him took a picture of him after he shot him in the head." He said the shooter "was sent there to kill him," noticing his nephew lived just a block away.
There is no more information about the incident, and no arrests have been made. Police haven't yet released any information about the shooter.
