9-year-old girl and her grandmother injured in Apopka shooting
A 9-year-old girl and her grandmother suffered gunshot injuries Monday morning after someone opened fire near their home in Apopka.
The shots were made from the West Orange bike trail and struck the back of the home, police said. Apopka police officer Ashley Ellen say the police believe the shooting was targeted but they don’t have a motive yet. They could determine that the shooter or shooters fired from the bike trail, near 12th Street and Short Street.
The Orange County Sheriff’s deputies responded the shooting at about 5:30 a.m.
Both the girl and her grandmother are in stable condition, although the 9-year-old still remains in the hospital, while the woman was released.
