Singer Miley Cyrus gave up on Christianity due to the fact that the church subjected LGBT-students to conversion therapy
In an interview on Instagram Live show Bright Minded, popular American singer and actress Miley Cyrus clashes with devout anti-LGBT interviewer Hailey Beiber. To all Beiber’s arguments that Cyrus lacks religion in her life, the singer replied that numerous attempts to “re-educate” her gay friends became the last straw in her relationship with the church.
“I had some gay friends in school,” she said. “That is the reason why I left my church is that they weren’t being accepted. They were being sent to conversion therapies. And I had a really hard time with that and I had a hard time with me finding my sexuality too.”
These church actions also traumatized Cyrus. Five years ago Miley Cyrus came out as pansexual.
“So I think now you telling me that I’m allowed to redesign my relationship with God as an adult and make it how it feels most accepting to me would make me feel so less turned off by spirituality,” she added.
Hailey Beiber, in turn, said that her whole family is a believer and after joining the Hillsong church their faith was strengthened even more. The statement of this church in the clear text says that they do not accept same-sex relationships and in every way try not to appoint people with nonstandard sexual orientation to leadership positions.
“Put clearly, we do not affirm a gay lifestyle and because of this we do not knowingly have actively gay people in positions of leadership, either paid or unpaid,” the church’s website says, reports LGBTQ Nation.
