The assault took place on May 15 in the Westwood Rehabilitation Nursing Center. The lawyer with the Center said the suspect, who was later identified as Jadon Hayden,  attacked 75-year-old man who is a temporary resident for rehabilitation and recovery.

Hayden now faces assault and battery charges. The center confirmed that he was in the facility on a temporary basis, after being brought there to undergo rehabilitation and recovery.

The video shows a young black male punching an elderly white man in his bed. The beating continues up to the moment the blood appears on the victim’s face. Then the attacker starts hurling insults at the elderly patient, calling him the n-word and telling him that he occupies his bed.

The man’s injuries were not life-threatening. The incident drew the authorities’ attention after the public concern and Detroit police express their gratitude.

"What our investigation has revealed so far was the nursing home was unaware of an assault until they saw the video," Detroit police Chief James Craig said at a news conference Thursday.

The incident was even noticed by the US President Donald Trump who also in his twitter expressed concern for the victim.

"Can this be for real? Where is this nursing home, how is the victim doing?" he tweeted.
