Long Island man stabbed his father to death in plain view of 20 people during Zoom meeting
This is to be a new “The Amityville Horror.”
A Long Island man fatally stabbed his father in plain view of twenty people during a Zoom meeting. The terrified virtual witnesses of a bloody murder called 911 but couldn’t give the location where the crime took place.
72-year-old Dwight Powers was taking part in a Zoom meeting with the group of Anonymous Alcoholics consisting of twenty people at his Amityville home on Thursday. His 32-year-old son, Thomas Scully-Powers, suddenly showed up naked in the frame and stabbed him to death.
“People thought he might have been attacked,” a police spokesperson said. “They noted him fall off the screen and then they heard heavy breathing.”
“It looked like bed sheets were being ripped off the bed by a gentleman who appeared to be naked as well as bald, and he had a tattoo on his left arm,” one of the participants in the Zoom said.
The participant said that Scully-Powers then placed the bed sheets on the floor “as if he was covering something up.”
The parricide fled the scene by jumping out of a window when the officers arrived at his father’s home 15 after the location was finally determined. But shortly after, the authorities were able to detain him a mile away. The cause for stabbing has not been released yet.
Scully-Powers has been charged with second-degree murder. He was later taken to a hospital for the minor injuries he received after jumping into a window. Police said details on his arraignment and detention will be available once he is released from the hospital.
Police were in the process of obtaining a search warrant and are hopeful the knife used in the attack will be found, cops said.
