GEAUGA COUNTY — July 13, 2018

Geauga County authorities arrested William H. McFadden IV, 35, of 1284 Oxford Drive, Madison, during a search of his home June 29. The arrest followed an online investigation into his internet traffic, during which McFadden allegedly shared child pornography with an undercover Geauga County investigator, said Prosecutor James Flaiz on Tuesday.

McFadden now faces one second-degree felony count of pandering obscenity involving a minor.

According to a release from the Geauga County prosecutor, during an interview with investigators, McFadden reportedly admitted to downloading and viewing child pornography from his home computer.

In January 2007, a Lake County Common Pleas Court judge sentenced McFadden to eight years in prison for rape and attempted rape charges involving boys between the ages of 10 and 11 and girls between the ages of 9 and 12, according to the release.

He was released from prison in February 2015 and remains under post release control until February 2020.

“This is an example of why these investigations are so vital,” Flaiz said in the release. “Here we have a convicted sexual predator out in the community who, despite spending eight years in prison, is seeking out and disseminating child pornography.”

Flaiz said the investigation is continuing. His office may consider sending the case up for federal charges and dismissing the state-level counts, given the “severity” of the charges and McFadden’s history.

The case confirms the facts regarding high recidivism levels for criminals involved in the child pornography cases. Some physicians have carefully and with reservation hinted that this is not just felony matter, but a possible psychiatric disease requiring special treatment.
