White man blocks front door of Brooklyn cafe demanding to remove "Black Lives Matter" sign from window
A new video posted on June 18 and shared on Reddit shows a white man who demanded an owner of a Brooklyn café to remove a “Black Lives Matter” sign from the window and blocked the front door for several minutes.
The incident took place at Burly Coffee & Better Read Than Dead Books on Kosciuszko St. and Nostrand Ave. A man named Abraham Knofler, who additionally turned out to be a Trump supporter, appears in the video repeatedly saying, “You need to take off the sign. You need to take off the sign.”
During the 10-minute encounter café owner can be heard pleasing Knofler to leave. But he refused, chanting “All Lives Matters.”
“This is the most racist thing out there,” Knofler says while pointing to the sign. “I’m not a racist.”
When asked why the sign must be taken off, Knofler replies, "because it's offensive to me."
Rohan Singh, who filmed the video, shared his experience and wrote on his twitter, “So this was my morning. I just wanted to get some coffee.”
Knofler told Gothamist, “I was making a protest—all lives matter... They don’t have to take it down, I just wanted to defend all lives matter.”
