Cat Nearly Killed With Firecracker
MANSFIELD, OH — July 14, 2018
A Mansfield, Ohio man admitted to being drunk and upset when he and several of his friends decided to shove a lit firecracker up a cat's anus.
As a result of the incident the cat suffered serious injuries, but survived and is recovering; however, it still faces amputation of it's tail and other operations.
A group of young men pleaded guilty on Wednesday to aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony, and to overdriving, torturing and injuring an animal, a misdemeanor, all in conjunction with the incident.
"I was at home, I was drunk," the criminal complaint quoted the defendant as saying to the cops. "We found a cat, and it flew across the stairs into the wall. Then we decided to joke and shoved it a lit firecracker up into the anus. I regret what I did".
The cat will remain at Phillips Animal Hospital for the next few days until her prognosis can be determined, according to the Humane Society.
"Her rectal catheter was removed today and there was feces on it, which is a good sign. Her urine is also clear which is another good sign. Her prognosis is better today than it was yesterday. However, she is developing an infection in her tail and received an antibiotic injection and will be on oral meds as well. She will be monitored to see if her tail needs amputated. She will still need monitored during the healing process to ensure her rectum is healing properly," a Humane Society representative wrote.
