Nearly 90 percent of Republicans want tighter control over IT corporations by the US government
A poll by the Pew Research Center found that 89 percent of GOP supporters want more rigorous regulation of IT giants like Google, Apple and Amazon.
At the same time, only 60 percent of Democrats agree that the tech giants have too much power.
In addition, more than 70 percent of respondents identify social media as a tool of mass influence, which also requires special government regulation. This issue is very acute during the reign of Donald Trump.
"Beyond debates about fair business practices, the tech industry has also come under fire in recent months from a host of critics – from President Donald Trump to civil rights advocates and even tech companies’ own employees," says Pew, a non-partisan think tank based in Washington DC, according to The Hill.
According to this report, both Democrats and Republicans alike agree that companies that have tools to influence people to a large extent should be controlled by the state.
