The former volunteer at the Democratic headquarters in Arizona who started the fire was arrested
Phoenix Police have arrested a suspect in charge of the fire at the Maricopa County Democratic Party office building.
The 29-year-old Matthew Egler previously volunteered there and therefore knew the building plan and surveillance cameras.
According to official information, the incident took place on July 24. Firefighters arrived at the office when fire engulfed several rooms. The fire could be localized and extinguished quickly, but significant damage could not be avoided.
“Investigators from the Fire Investigation Task Force, comprised of the Phoenix Fire Department and Police Department and in partnership with the ATF, investigated the fire. Surveillance video showed a man arriving alone in a car in the overnight hours. The video shows the suspect breaking glass to get into the building and then lighting an incendiary fire inside. The man then drove off,” Phoenix police reports.
It is reported that investigators got on the trail of the arsonist thanks to his stupidity, as Egler posted on social media evidence linking him and the fire.
