Tennesseans Are Buying More Confederate License Plates Than Ever
JACKSON – July 19, 2018
The anti-Confederate rhetoric, the war on monuments of prominent South Army commanders and the general hostile atmosphere in society toward southern heritage have led to a boom in displays of Dixie flags and confederate themed car plates in Tennessee. The number of people buying the flags and plates has grown dramatically, local media reports.
For example, as many as 3273 license plates with the phrase “Sons of Confederacy” have been registered in Tennessee this year, while only 1845 were registered in 2014.
Proceeds from the “Sons of Confederacy” plates go toward the organization's Tennessee division, they have been issued by the state since 2004.
