JFK AIRPORT, NEW YORK — July 19, 2018

According to the police, a 61-year-old New Jersey woman has been charged for attempting to smuggle nearly 10 pounds of heroin in packages she had folded to resembled cooked chicken.

Emma Soriano, of Passaic, was taken into custody after disembarking from a flight into New York from Mexico City at John F. Kennedy International Airport in a Wednesday morning.

According to the United States Customs and Border Protection, she was caught while her baggage was being inspected, authorities said.

The case was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations and will be prosecuted by New York's Eastern District.

Customs authorities seized the heroin and took the woman into custody.

CBP officials have seized large amounts of narcotics such as heroin in other drug busts at the border. In September 2016, CBP officers seized nearly $2 million dollars worth of narcotics being smuggled into Texas across the border.
