Former Yakima Mayor Arrested For Robbing Her Own Mother's House
The former Yakima Mayor Avina Gutierrez was arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of stealing $ 30,000 worth of property from her mother's home while intoxicated.
Gutierrez served as Mayor of Yakima from 2015 to 2016.
Details of the arrest are not disclosed, nor is it known whether the applicant was her mother. The prosecutor's office reportedly issued an arrest warrant for the former official on Thursday.
The police also obtained testimony from witnesses who allegedly saw a woman who looked like the suspect took out various objects from the victim's house and loaded them into a truck.
“On October 1 a witness watched Avina Gutierrez load a large truck with items from her mothers' home in the 1400 block of 31st Avenue. The items included art, drawings, photos and other valuables,” the court documents said.
41-year-old Avina Gutierrez charged with residential burglary and first-degree theft, both with domestic violence enhancements.
At the moment, the suspect, still under the influence of an unknown drug, is under arrest. The amount of the deposit has not been established.
