Alabama Arsonists Identified, One Arrested
GADSDEN, AL – July 20, 2018
Two Gadsden, Alabama brothers are facing felony charges for first-degree arson. after they used a Molotov cocktail to torch their neighbor's home.
On the evening of July 8th, two men were walking down the street towards the 900 block of Agricola Avenue, carrying a Molotov cocktail. Residents found it suspicious and called the police.
While officers were checking the block, a second call from the area came to the Fire Department. The caller reported a fire in the rear exterior of an occupied home.
The Gadsden Fire Department responded and quickly extinguished the fire. The remnants of a Molotov cocktail were recovered from the scene. Due to the quick response of the Gadsden Fire Department no injuries were reported and the damage to the residence was minor.
Police detectives launched an investigation, rightly believing that the motive involves an on-going dispute between neighbors.
On July 19th detectives obtained an arrest warrant for 42-year-old Melvin Floyd Leonard and Jimmy Dewayne Leonard, 47, for first-degree arson. Melvin Floyd is being held in the Etowah County Jail on $100,000 bond. Jimmy Dewayne Leonard remains at large.
