Snowden Obtained Unlimited Residence Permit In Russia
The former US spy is already at the last stage of obtaining Russian citizenship. Snowden’s attorney said that his client can stay in the Russian Federation for an unlimited period.
“Today, Snowden was handed a residency permit for an unlimited period of time,” Snowden’s attorney Anatoly Kucherena told Russia’s state Tass news agency, The Associated Press reported.
Edward Snowden, several times tried to negotiate with the government and the American special services about returning to his homeland. The former spy offered nearly $ 5 million to return to the United States without the risk of going to jail for treason.
Kucherena also clarified that the documents for obtaining Russian citizenship were not submitted, and the application for obtaining the status of permanent residency was filed back in April, but due to the pandemic, the consideration of the application was postponed.
The money that Snowden intended to transfer was received as royalties for the publication of the book with an autobiography.
Earlier this year, Donald Trump considered a pardon for Snowden, but the case did not go beyond words.
