Suicide Rates Are on the Rise in Kentucky
FRANKFORT, KY – July 23, 2018
Suicide rates are growing nationwide, but especially – in the state of Kentucky, local media reports.
For example, in just the first half of the year 10 people committed suicide in Boyd County: which is the average number of suicides in any given year.
Boyd County authorities have taken action to stop the wave of the suicides, including free showings of the documentary film “Suicide: The Ripple Effect” by Pathways Inc.
However, this is the least state officials can do, since “in Kentucky, suicide is the second leading cause of death for individuals ages 10 to 34,” Pathways said in a press release, citing a report by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. “In fact, more than three times as many people die by suicide in Kentucky than by homicide.”
