Cuts in Healthcare Taking Their Toll in Montana
HELENA, MT – July 24, 2018
Budget cuts have led to “unsustainable” staffing levels, with just 420 job opportunities available state-wide, in Montana's healthcare system, local media reports.
The cuts have been hitting the state for the last two years, beginning with the decision of the legislative session back in 2017, and following “the reduction bill” passed this summer.
The cuts have come through a combination of loss of state funds and federal matching funds, as well as lowering Medicaid rates that reimburse providers for services. Some cuts made during the special session could be reduced if revenues come in high enough, an amount that will be certified late this summer.
