Virginia Black Man Who Was Arrested By Maskless Cop Tested Covid-Positive
A high-profile incident of racial profiling escalated last week and a victim of circumstance tested positive for Covid-19.
According to the fiancée of Jamar Makei, right after the policeman and the man found out that his arrest was wrong, Mackey and his entire family were tested for coronavirus.
Shantel Covil, who filmed the video, told WAVY that Mackey took a COVID-19 test as a health precaution on Dec. 22. On Christmas Eve, the test came back positive she said, and that Mackey is currently quarantining at his home, with mild symptoms including a "low grade fever, a cough, and a sore throat."
At the moment, the test results for the 13-year-old son and baby were not yet ready.
The test results of the officer who made the arrest are also not known. The Virginia Beach Police Department has yet to issue a public apology to the family over the incident. Mackey's attorney, Don Scott said they are currently preparing a legal action against the police.
"Everybody in this region knows this is how you get treated. This is how Black males get treated in Virginia Beach," Scott said to "Good Morning America" on Dec. 22. "So, this is what we hope to be able to change."
