Today, the local authorities consider the primary cause of the mass accident is icing of the road surface. According to the latest information, more than 36 people were hospitalized and another 29 received medical assistance at the scene of the accident.
“There were multiple people that were trapped within the confines of their vehicles and requiring the use of hydraulic rescue equipment to successfully extricate them,” said Fort Worth Fire Chief Jim Davis, reports The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The series of accidents began at about 6 am. City services have not yet commented on whether the necessary measures were taken on the eve of the treatment of the highway to prevent icing.
