NY man who brutally shoved Asian woman arrested thanks to massive social media searching campaign
A viral video in which a man violently throws a box at a woman he does not know, and then pushes her, causing head injuries, led to the fact that social media users united and found a suspect.
Lot of commentary re people standing by doing nothing. Before this video starts witness says one man tried to get between. Others chased him, called 911, crowd rushed to her aide. The real “coward” is the man seen here shoving the woman.— CeFaan Kim (@CeFaanKim) February 18, 2021
The aggressive male in the video was identified as 47-year-old Patrick Mateo. According to official information, he already has a lawyer, but neither the suspect nor his representatives give any comments.
The NYPD's 109th Precinct said "numerous tips from the community" played a key role in catching 47-year-old Patrick Mateo, "the suspect in the violent assault of an elderly female on Roosevelt Avenue," in Flushing, Queens.
Mateo was charged with assault and harassment.
The victim of the attack was identified as 52-year-old Lee-Lee Chin-Yeung. The video shows how she was lifted off her feet and thrown down. Later, doctors put several stitches on the woman's forehead.
