Man barricaded himself inside Ohio church for hours before shooting himself aith AR-15
An armed man barricaded himself inside an Ohio church on Monday and stayed there for hours before shooting himself with the AR-15 rifle while being surrounded by police.
25-year-old suspect armed with the rifle barricaded himself inside to the Greenville Baptist Temple with a small group of people. Several 911 calls were made to report the authorities of the hostage situation.
Deputies with the Darke County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at about 6:15 p.m. and started negotiating with the suspect.
According to the witness, the man was threatening to hurt himself shortly after he showed up at the Temple. The churchgoers could safely hide themselves I the basement before they were escorted out of the building by the law enforcement.
The negotiations took several hours; all this time the armed man was in the building. He eventually shot himself with the AR-15. When the deputies got his body out from the church, the man was alive.
He was immediately airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital. His condition is unknown. The man is still unidentified.
Nobody else was injured in the incident.
The investigation is ongoing. It remains unclear what made him want to hurt himself.
