As a result of the derailment of a 50-car train carrying chemicals into a tank, there was a leak of hydrochloric acid. According to experts, the vapors of this chemical are not hazardous to humans.
Local authorities, however, prohibited people from approaching the accident site to avoid injury. The level of environmental pollution is unknown.
According to the Albert Lea Police Department, the incident occurred after 1:30 p.m. north of the intersection of Hawthorne Street and Ulsted Avenue, near Goose Lake.
